I had barely pressed send on my latest post on suburban poverty when I ran across an interesting infographic about large churches.
Based upon data from Leadership Network, The Christian Post and Forbes – large churches in America have seen an increase in attendance since 2009.
That wasn’t that surprising.
What surprised me was that 67% of large churches saw an increase in their budgets between 2009 and 2010 and 71% are planning on adding new staff. Seeing that a majority of large churches are located in the suburbs, I wonder how these churches plan on using their increased budgets to help the swelling poverty at their doors. Anyone have a story or examples of churches engaging with the suburban poor?
